I don't know about you all but I am beginning to think a lot about Christmas~I know we still have Thanksgiving to gear up for...I just don't want to be running around at the last minute~ Are any of you starting on your Christmas crafts? What's the earliest time that you've put up your Christmas tree? How many of you have already finished your gift shopping ? How many of you haven't even started? (Insert me raising my hand here!)

omg, CHRISTMAS..I love Christmas!! I have bought some Christmas presents..not many, we usally have around 40 or so people to buy for and then we sent out 250 cards last year...LOL..so, If I ever get any free time I will be addressing Christmas cards! Oh, i just can't wait to start everything, BUT Thanksgiving..is totally my favorite holiday..so we must enjoy it in all its glory also!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm thinking of it too. I'm anxious to take down the Halloween decorations and put up Christmas--but I'll wait til after Thanksgiving. I do love Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI have NOT started my shopping yet, but I'm beginning to make my lists. So much to do.
Robin- I'm thinking of bringing out one of our Christmas trees, like Joy did, and making Thanksgiving ornaments. Just for fun! It's always good to realize we have so much for be thankful for.:) Lori
ReplyDeleteI love winter & Christmas decorations. I have started my crafts, I've bought a few gifts, started stocking extra brown sugar, choc chips, etc. I plan on making a few gifts, also. I will be starting my decorating probably this weekend, just my snowmen to start out. Very good questions, girlie.
ReplyDeletePam
Not one little thing....a few ideas floating around in my head........ or is that sugarplums? Beth
ReplyDeleteChristmas is, hands down, my favorite time of year!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteWe, usually, put up our tree right after Thanksgiving. That's been the earliest for me. Then, I'm one of those people who takes it down after all the presents have been opened and enjoyed for awhile. The reason being is that we often travel the day after Christmas and I don't want to have to worry about taking it down when we get home.
No, I haven't begun my Christmas shopping yet, but I am compiling ideas. I really need to get moving, don't I?
Ready to see all the wonderful crafts that will be popping around everyones page. I put my tree up usually around Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteAs far as gifts...I am slimming down with the economy the way it is. Going to try and make things this year instead of buying stuff. People seem to like something from the heart better or at least I think they do. I know I do.
Ready to see your crafts now :)
Morning! I decorate the day after Thanksgiving. It seems strange to do it any earlier to me. I can't imagine celebrating Thanksgiving with Christmas all around but I have read several bloggers that will be doing just that.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your NP kit. it goes fairly quickly!!
Well I have started buying gifts and i am trying to make a good bit this year too. I put our tree up the day after thanksgiving. I could put it up know but I would hate to take away from thanksgiving. Have a great day. Blessings, Karen
ReplyDeleteOH PLEASE NOOOOOOOO!!!!! I haven't even STARTED my own Christmas shopping yet; I've been too busy shopping for my store. Our Open House is 11/8 and I'm going C-R-A-Z-Y!!! LOL
ReplyDeletePam
I would put my Christmas tree up now if I was able to, but hubby insists that I wait until the day after Thanksgiving. As for the gift shopping that all starts in July. The kids know this year with the impending move the gifts are not going to be as plentiful, but they will be there. I also have not truly started. I bought 2 stocking stuffers, but nothing else. I do know exactly what we are getting everyone though. That at least is a good thing!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have started shopping, I love the holidays! Just waiting for a couple more weeks to start decorating!
ReplyDeleteI put my tree up the day after Thanksgiving..I am starting to shop...slowly!!!
ReplyDeleteMorning Robin,
ReplyDeleteNow we put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving but when we used to go to Houston for Thanksgiving we decorated and put the tree up the weekend before Thanksgiving. Otherwise, by the time we got back it was too frantic trying to get decorated. Thank goodness my parents now come here and we don't get in all that Houston traffic mess!!!
I have about 70% of my Christmas shopping done. We don't buy much for anyone but Lexi now days. We just don't really need anything as we buy what we want throughout the year.
We've been making the majority of our gifts the last few years, mainly because we've not been blessed with cash, but other things. This year we are contmeplating making some jalopeno jelly and crackers to send to everyone. We normally send a bunch of cookies. I think the best one was the gourmet popcorn we made one year. It was so tasty.
ReplyDeleteI've actually started shopping, but I do not decorate until the first week of Dec.
ReplyDeleteI can't know there are only 56 more days 'till Christmas....I'm blocking it out!
ReplyDeleteI may be thinking of Christmas crafts....I'll be doing good if they get done before Christmas. Doesn't everyone stay up late Christmas Eve getting things finished???
Hey Robin. Great questions here. I have been shopping. This is the earliest ever. I got all my stocking exchange all ready to send out too. I am so glad about that. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to put the tree up. I love dragging out the season as long as possible. I have a few more things to do, but I am on my way to getting ahead of the ballgame. I am looking forward to being with my WHOLE family this year. I want to spend it playing games and drinking hot chocolate and soaking in the time more than fighting traffic. I love the hussle bussle though. I really do this time of year. Even though I do not like crowds, I have a purpose and it helps that fear. I am rambling here.
ReplyDeleteAnyways. Hope all is well and it's okay to not have started yet. ♥
We used to put up our Christmas tree and decorations on Thanksgiving night after we had our big family meal, we would have hot chocolate and pie while we were decorating when the kids were still at home. And as for shopping I haven't even begun!! This year will probably be alot of homemade gifts!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you know me. I'm still in boycott the holidays mode. Last year we paid a guy to put up our Christmas lights, and this year, I'm thinking, Nah, it's just a waste. We'll just not have lights this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm still looking to buy a predecorated tree that can stay decorated year after year.
Got any ideas?
Sher,
ReplyDeleteThe only idea I have is buying a tree that already has lights on it-Then going to Walmart or Target and buying the "decorated tree in a box" (yes people, they do have these) It's everthing you need to decorate your tree in one box. They actually have themes and different colors too. It's really a no brainer. I know there are places you can buy a pre decorated tree but you will have to shell out some serious greenbacks. :)
Let us know what you come up with~♥
Love Christmas...am just beginning to think about buying gifts! I'm one of those who has a tendency to still be running around on Christmas Eve, much to my chagrin!
ReplyDeleteI'll start putting up my decorations most likely on Thanksgiving Day, after all the dishes have been done (if we stay home) and everyone has left for the evening.
Are you kidding, I'm still paying off last Christmas!
ReplyDelete(From your brother)
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteyou know I'm already thinking about Christmas. I'm about 75% done with my shopping and I have made some presents. I have two more items to buy and about 5 more to make. I take an extra day off right after the Thanksgiving weekend . The day after Thanksgiving all of my decorations come out and the trimming of my home begins. I plan to have my shopping done prior to Thanksgiving and me and my family will be enjoying decorating our home and spending quality time together during the month of December without having to run around like crazy. I love Christmas and can't wait.
Have a wonderful day,
Tam
I am like you - already thinking Christmas. I usually start getting down boxes of stuff out of the attic in mid Nov., but don't really start decorating until after Thanksgiving. I am ready to put out stuff now because I absolutely LOOOOOVE Christmas! I haven't done any gift buying at all, but I need to start. I may try to do a few crafty gifts this year.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for Christmas but feel so behind on my shopping! I am usually done by now. I don't even have 1/2 of it done.
ReplyDeleteThe earliest I put my Christmas stuff up was 2 weekends before Thanksgiving. I had good reason though-we were going to be out of town the two weekends leading up to Thanksgiving and I wanted to come home to a decorated house. :)
Also, about church....I love our small group. It is the only way we have connected to our church because it is huge too! We actually wouldn't even be going there if it wasn't for the small group. I hope you find a group soon! I know how it is to be at a newer church and not know anyone! :(
Good question! I thought I didn't have anything done but I started thinking...I do have almost my stocking swap done and I'm making a few gifts for the women who love prim:) I've also bought alot of ribbon to make bows for packages this year all at good prices:0 I usually put the big bows on the grandaughters gifts their eyes just light up!
ReplyDeleteWe put the tree up right after Thanksgiving and I start to decorate then:)
Rondell
Robin...been painting for craft sales for the past few weeks...
ReplyDeleteWe will wait and put up the Christmas decorations after my daughter comes home from college.
The second week in December.
Blessings,
Kathy
Ooooo I love Christmas and I can't wait to decorate my new old house! Probably do it the day after Thanksgiving, since I can't afford to go out shopping!
ReplyDeleteI have started on some crafts..I just wish I could get my mojo back...don't have any energy to do what needs to get done!
Hugz,
Michele
The truth is that Robin's family doesn't celebrate Christmas only Festivus like George from Seinfeld.
ReplyDeleteIt's Celebrated December 23rd each year. You eat whatever you want. The only thing needed is a festivus pole. I'm shocked that Robin hasn't blogged the family pole yet!
Very funny Ron...Glad to see you are learning to leave a comment without the name Johnny on it!?!
ReplyDeleteForgive him friends he is new to this blogging stuff!
Happy Festivus!
Robin,
ReplyDeleteI just had to ask...you've run marathons and done triathlons??? I am so impressed!! The most I've done are 5K's. What an amazing accomplishment...you go girl!!!
I tried one year to get everything done early but the problem was.... I just KEPT shopping and buying... not a good idea for ME to start TOO early!!! BUT I DO LOVE Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW... ROBIN! you really ARE awesome!
ReplyDeletei neeeeeeeed to take advantage of these sales that i see going on around here for Christmas presents!
thank you for reminding me & for lighting the fire under my rear! ♥
Thanks Robin!! I'm on it!
ReplyDeleteIf we don't get a "festival of trees" tree, which I think would be expensive, but for a good cause, it goes to charity, then I'll look into buying one of those trees in a box.
And the pre-lit thing sounds pretty good, the lights are the worst part.
I have a funny Christmas tree story, but I'm saving it for my blog, when it gets closer to Christmas.....
Hello! I'm going to try something different and NOT shop ahead of time. Really cutting back this year, I'm looking forward to trying something new and saving money (or seeing if I save!)
ReplyDeleteHappy Day!
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteThought I would take 5 from my last minute cleaning to thank you for your sweet comment today. You made my day. : )
About your post...Christmas shopping is the ONE thing I don't procrastinate on. I start looking for everyone's "perfect" gift, starting in about July, at the "perfect" sale or clearance price, if that's possible. Usually it is.
I'm SO happy for you that you will be with your little cupcakes this weekend. There's nothing like it.
Love,
Mary Lou
Hey Robin! I'm cracking up at your brother's comment above. My hubby loves that Seinfeld episode! Hey, my Caroline knows where a pole is, remember?!? He, he, he! We normally put up the trees Thanksgiving night and the day after and I boycot shopping that day b/c it's always just way too crazy for me and I don't need anything that badly anyhow! But, this year Jason is TDY for a week or so before Turkey day and then goes from 1-16 December again so I'll have to host Thanksgiving dinner all decked out for Christmas I think! That is, if I want his help getting it all out of the attic and helping me corale the kids while I set up!!! Happy almost Halloween~ 50 mins to go until it's upon us!!! Hugs, Les
ReplyDeleteI have never put the tree up before Halloween, but the festivus pole is another story. Please forgive me. m
ReplyDeleteI just love Christmas time.
ReplyDeleteHaven't gotten too far on the shopping yet. I'll get to it between now & Thanksgiving.
We love to decorate the day or weekend after Thanksgiving if possible.
Can't wait & Happy Halloween.
Whew... trying not to think about this yet. :) But I did listen to my Bing Crosby Xmas cd yesterday just for fun. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween!
Hugs,
Liz & Mabel
Hi I have been thinking, pondering, dreaming about Christmas! Yes, and I was sooo excited because my hubby and I always cook for about 30 relatives at Thanksgiving....and we still are at someone else house (grandma's) so I was excited because I could start my decorating early. Today I am actually cleaning up all the Halloween stuff except for the dining room...and just getting the house clean and 'ready'. Yipppppeeeeee...I am excited too just like you!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Deb
You are a mess! A funny mess though girl! I am still cracking up at your comment. I checked with 'the boss' (aka Princess Caroline) and she said to come on over and use her 'Festivus Pole' girlfriend!!! She'll be glad to share!!! ;) Happy TGIF day to you! Boo! Les
ReplyDeleteYep I have already started my Christmas crafts for other people, but not for me. I usually start decorating the day after Thanksgiving. But then it all comes down right after New Years.
ReplyDeleteMary
Now I'm really cracking up! Same thing goes on here in my house! My hubby told me I shouldn't blog when my kids are up or when it's super late at night b/c I forget what in the heck I'm doing! Nope, didn't mean anything bad saying you're a funny mess~ my hubby tells me I'm a funny or hot mess all the time so it's a nice term in our house!!! No worries!!! You threw me for a loop though b/c when I clicked the blog to reply via a comment it took me there and I had no clue where I was b/c I hadn't been to that blog before!!! Thanks for the smile! Happy Halloween day to you! Have a good one! Phew~ those were some long comments I left, right?!? ;) Hugs, Les
ReplyDeleteHaven't...I meant to in July...but, uh...um...ooops.
ReplyDeleteM ^..^
I totally get excited and go overboard for Christmas and unfortunately I have passed this disorder on to my children. I just got off the phone with my oldest daughter and she informed me that she is decorating her house for Christmas TOMORROW!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Christmas and my tree usuallly goes up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I am really undecided this year because Thanksgiving is later. I have my first Christmas party on December 2 which is an ornament swap and I want my house decorated. Thanksgiving is at my house so I don't feel right having Christmas decorations up then. I think I will have my upstairs decorated before then and save just the downstairs and PRAY I can get it together in one weekend. As far as shopping....NO...I'm not even 1/2 way there.
ReplyDeleteRobin, I have always started with Christmas decor Nov 1, howerver this year I am not...just don't feel like it. Maybe in a few more days...I feel like if I don't do it early, I don't get to enjoy it long enough! Why do all that work for just a couple of weeks, right? I enjoy doing all the decorating! Nancy
ReplyDeleteI was in Home Depot today and I was SO excited to see all of the Christmas trees. It just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside! I will try to reign it in until after Thanksgiving though!
ReplyDeleteWe usually put up our tree Thanksgiving weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have started shopping...not nearly done, but about 1/3 of the way so far and I have a lot of it planned out.
I also have two kinds of cookie dough in the freezer waiting for Christmas baking.
Hi Robin
ReplyDeleteThanks for Booing me and sorry I wasn't here to take part.
I did a little Christmas shopping when we were in London. There are some beautiful shops but they are so expensive. I picked up lots of ideas to copy anyway!
Best Wishes
Lindsay-ann
I'm going thru some serioud Halloween withdrawals. I miss October already *lol*
ReplyDeleteI start my Christmas crafts in the summer when the days are longer. I stock up on supplies then too. I buy Christmas gifts starting at the New Years and get things at various months, depending whats on sale. That way- closer to the actuall Holiday season I can relax and know that MOST of my Christmas gift shopping is taken care of. I do get the little things like stuffers when they come out. I don't like the mad rush or traffic- not to mention that car theft (break-ins) are on the rise at that time of year too. SO I sit back relax and wrap in Nov. & Dec. We usually get out tree the first weekend of December. I love the Noble Firs. Hubby likes the traditional "full" ones. Hubby LOVES Christmas. I do too, but Halloween is my fave!
~A~
The earliest I've ever put up my Christmas tree is the weekend after Thanksgiving - I'm usually a first two digit weekend girl - so that was early for me. I haven't even started my shopping - wait, I'm not shopping this year! I took the Home-made pledge....I better get working on some projects. You can check out a giveaway I'm doing - you design a hat and if you win, I make it for you! I'm very excited!
ReplyDeleteRobin dear,
ReplyDeleteI haven't started shopping yet... but all of our Christmas presents this year are to be made... exccept I get to buy one for each of grands!! :D I have however... started making my Christmas presents... (Thanks to you dear!!)
I am having sooooo much fun!!! :D
We don't put up our tree until Thanksgiving evening... while I am trying to work off all the good eats of the day!!! And usually I have at least one present to put under the tree when it is decorated!!! I will show everyone my tree hopefully on the Saturday after.... The day after... I will be shopping for anything I need for Christmas lol. ;-)
I hope your having a wonderfully blessed day!!
And Happy Festivus to you too dear!!
Just found your blog today and I love it. I too am thinking about Christmas and this year might be the earliest we set up the tree. Before Thanksgiving! You see we will be out of town during Thanksgiving and right after that my hubby leaves for two weeks so that would normally be the time we would put up the tree but then when he gets back we leave again the week after he gets home for a white Christmas with family. So we decided to put it up early this year so we could enjoy it more. Crazy I know but fun.
