Many hummingbirds stay in Seattle year round. This poor little girl didn't fly South for the winter along with at least 5 others that decided to stay around my home too. I put a little tree (which she is sitting on)out on my covered back porch for the birds and a heat lamp out there for our dog. The dog and I were walking all around this little hummingbird and she didn't seem to mind one bit. So yes, I WAS this close to her while taking the photo~♥ The white background is snow...Yes, snow in Seattle~Who'd have thought?
This guy is not amused with the snow kerplunking off his head!
Notice the food in the feeder is frozen at the top? Can you say...Tasty Freeze? :)
By the way I always keep the feeders thawed out for the birds.
"I should have flown to Mexico when I had the chance!"
Lows South of Seattle could dip down around 16 degrees tonight with more snow in the forecast. Seattle has not had these temperatures in December since the 1950's!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Have a great week everyone~Stay safe!
Cold indeed Robin. Love the look of the snow though. It is so nice to see white around this time of year. I love the information about the beautiful hummingbirds. So lovely. Poor little guys. I still feel sorry for them.
ReplyDeleteI hope they make it throught the winter. You are so sweet to take care of them!

ReplyDeleteThe snow is beautiful and I feel sorry for the little guys too. I wish they would fly south-Just so you know-I'm quite sure they will make it through the winter-They have every other year (though our winters usually start in Feb and last only 2 days here in Seattle) :)
Oh gosh I am so glad you are taking care of them and keeping the feeders thawed. Can they survive the snow and temps. like that? Sounds like with some snow already it might be a long, cold winter! We are supposed to end up in the 30's for a high tomorrow with possible sleet, it was in the 70's today a nice warm day. Send us the snow not sleet or ice.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as always I LOVE your hummingbird photos. Just BEAUTIFUL!
Hey Darlene,
ReplyDeleteMy back deck has a covered top and we enclosed the sides too. So it is warm enough in there. Like I said above-We usually only have two days of freezing weather so we are in for a chore keeping them and their feeders thawed! I'm just hoping my daughter doesn't go into labor!
I wish my hummingbirds would have stayed instead of those horrible visitors I have now!! ;) Love the photos!! Try and stay warm! I'm freezing here, and it's not 16 degrees!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, we've never had any hummingbirds stay here in NC for the winter. That's really something. So glad you're able to take care of these little ones and I hope they make it through the winter. We love our hummers here!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your snow!!!
ReplyDeleteRondell
The birds are lovely. I keep praying for more snow here!
ReplyDeleteI think this may be a record year for snow from the way things have started. I can't believe the birds are still there....you have them spoiled!!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are awesome - and - thank you for taking care of these special little birds. I feed them every year, and I miss my little ornery guy in the winter.
ReplyDeleteWe've only had one little bitty snowfall this year in southwestern Ohio, but we have some more coming.
Love your blog!
Terry
Over here in the East we are already at 16 at 8:45. Seattle is always so crazy if it snows! As usual your hummingbird photos do not dissapoint and I love that they like you so much they want to stay. (I bet it has something to do with the heater and thawed foodl.)
ReplyDeleteWow...great photos!!
ReplyDeleteThose hummingbirds are so cute! And the second one (male probably) lovely in its colors!!
ReplyDeleteHAve a great day Robin!
Monica
Awww...those little hummingbirds are so precious! I love them...great pictures! We had many hummingbirds during the warmer months, but I, of course, haven't seen any for awhile. I miss them. Loved your story, Robin!
ReplyDeleteWhat a little sweetie!

Lucky you! We haven't had any snow yet in our part of NC. :o(
ReplyDeleteThe little angels love you so much they don't want to leave you.:) You take such good care of them! The pictures are beautiful, Robin! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteNo snow here- but ice! Don't know if I will get to the post office today... Lori
Cannot believe Sugar did not get one vote??????
They are all lovely! I hope they stay warm.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are there to look after those beautiful birds. I always love seeing your hummingbirds as we don't have them in England. I saw two sweet little robins today and thought of you.
It sounds like you need to wrap up and keep warm and drink lots of hot tea. That's what I am doing these days. I am fed up of sraping ice off my car every morning and wearing two pairs of socks!
Lindsay
Please share some of your snow pics...living in the south the only way I get snow is from my friends over in blog land!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
We're out on the Kitsap Peninsula & always have Anna's Hummingbirds stay for the winter. They, too sometimes take refuge on our covered deck. It's the deer, though, that come out of the woodwork when it snows here! I'm sure it's because they know where to get an easy meal; we feed them!
ReplyDeleteThose are the coolest pictures - I didn't know some hummingbirds stayed up north, although Seattle is usually warmer than it appears to be now, darn that global warming! oops, I was informed by our scientific types that it's climate change, not global warming...I guess they couldn't handle the pressure from the likes of me!
ReplyDeleteHi-- just wanted to wish you a happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteLovely pics Robin. Enjoy the snow while it lasts!!
ReplyDeleteHi Robin~
ReplyDeleteBrrr! Are you staying warm? I can't believe how cold is it out there! :) The kids are all excited because of the two hour school delays and snow to play in! :)
I love your bird pictures! :) Oh, and I think the name Noel Grace is absolutely beautiful! :)
I have been thinking about you today. I hope all is going well with you and your soon to be bigger family :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh those pictures of the hummingbirds are gorgeous! I'm so glad you're taking care of them! Yes, the snow and the cold temperatures here this week are CRAZY!!! I am amazed! I live in Seattle too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and beautiful birds! I can't believe they stayed! Stubborn birds!
