Being I'm not Old McDonald and I don't have a farm but have a "itch" to have a garden, I had to find some ideas. You see, right behind our backyard is a huge green belt of trees and ferns and it's beautiful but those trees don't let much sun into our backyard... The left of the yard has some sun in the morning and the right of the yard has sun in the afternoon... I definitely had a dilemma... Until I was at BHG online and saw the "Lettuce Wagon!" (not to be confused with "the party wagon") !!!
I'm sure my neighbors are going to love me "even more" when they see me out pulling my wagon to sunnier grounds!
Wonder what I could grow in a wheelbarrow? Any other ideas out there?

Robin- SO cute! I love bleeding hearts in shady areas. And pansies would be so sweet in a wheelbarrow! Can you grow gardenias there? I grew them in Virginia, but they just die here.:( CAn't wait to see what you create, Sis!:) Lori

When we were in college and living in married housing there was no way to really have a garden. However, we all had a patio or balcony. A friend of mine bought a small plastic wading pool, filled it with dirt and planted a small garden in it. It was deep enough that she could do quite a bit with it and it worked out really well for them. Yes, it was small, but it was better than nothing!

ReplyDeleteThe barrow idea is great. How about growing potatoes in it or strawberries perhaps?
My parents used to have a big garden and grow lots. I have fond childhood memories of raspberry, rhubarb and apple picking there. Our garden here is too small really to grow anthing much but I DO have room for a barrow. You may just have given me a good idea there. Thanks for sharing.

you can grow tomatoes in a 5 gallon bucket...as long as you hang it..and cut some big holes in it.
Oh, Robin, that is too funny dragging your wagon from one side of the yard to the other.
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to plant some stuff in a wagon myself...'Cept the kids would dump it out and use the wagon! I like the pails in the window. I don't have a sunny backyard either. And things I plant in the front have to be deer proof!

Oh I like the wagon idea a lot! I grow impatiens in my wheelbarrow in the shade. I say try tomatoes to go with the lettuce!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of using a wheelbarrow for a planter of sorts, but I love the idea! I'm a huge fan of daylillies and dianthus! Those colorful pails are the cutest!

ReplyDeleteWhat cute ideas. I love them both. I haven't got any suggestions for you though. I'm pretty inept in this department. I usually just plant whatever I want, wherever I want it, then wonder why it's not growing (after a month of not watering it--and who knows if the conditions were proper or not?).
