How Do You See The World?

Photobucket

During an interview Stephenie Meyer who wrote the Twilight series said she saw everything around her in a story form-She was always thinking up stories in her head of things she saw during the day. She thought everyone did this. The lady interviewing her said she was sure most people didn’t. This got me thinking… Even though I didn’t see the world around me in story form I did see it a certain way~

So I asked my husband how he saw life around him…

Photobucket

He told me that he looks at things and wonders how he can improve them or build something using the items he sees.

So when he is climbing on these logs…

Photobucket

…He is building this in his head. I like the way his mind works.

Then I asked my mom what her take on matters were?

I should have known her answer being she IS a artist.

Photobucket

When my mom is traveling around and sees something special she visualizes it as a painting.

Sometimes she just remembers it, like this storm over the Palouse here in Washington that she painted.

Other times she takes a picture of it like…

Photobucket

This house she saw in Virginia on a road trip with her sister and her mother.
She snapped a few pictures, when she got back home she grabbed a canvas and got busy painting.

I’m quite sure you all already know how I see the world around me. When I am out and about I can hear the shutter of my camera clicking away in my mind. I see still shots everywhere I go… Here are some photos I took of the beautiful world around me.

I would have to say that this was one of your best posts yet. Simply BEAUTIFUL and very moving! Like you, I view life through the eyes of a lens. I'm constantly looking for just the right photo opportunity. You defintely found some keepers! That last picture pulls at my heart strings...PRECIOUS!

  2. This is a great post Robin--very thought provoking. My husband is a lot like yours and is always looking at how he can build or improve something.

I wish I could capture the world on canvas like your mom, but alas my fingers don't have the skill. I'm more of a shutterbug like you. Your photos are lovely. I hope you have a bunch of them framed to enjoy around your house.

  4. Love this post! That cabin is gorgeous! I like the way he sees things too. : )

That's a great question. Weird answer but I see things in movie form. Like I'm watching a movie as things unfold and happen.

  10. Robin- You have absolutely blown me AWAY! This is your best post ever. Visually beautiful and thought provoking. When are you going to start making note cards with your glorious pictures, Sis?? Lori

  11. I am a camera person too. I'm always wishing that I could just blink and take a picture just the way I see it, because it doesn't always look the same when you use a camera.

  12. Beautiful post. I love all the pics, that last one is especially precious.
Hmmm, I'm going to have to think on this a bit. I used to see life as a stage and everyone was playing their "part". I don't think I really have a view anymore though, although sometimes I do find ideas for things to write about in everyday situations. So, I guess maybe now it's more of a book.

  13. Hi Robin
I really enjoyed this wonderful post. Your pictures are amazing. I especially like the ones which captured the bird life in your state. I agree with Lori, you should make notecards and sell them. The last one of Noelle is so precious, her hand is so tiny. Your Mom's painting is beautiful, she is very talented.
How do I see the world? I do not see it as a story or anything like that. I know that I like the countryside more than the
big cities. Really tall building make me feel very uneasy. The countryside always makes me reach for my camera. I also look at run down houses and barns and dream of what I could do with them if only I had the money. That log home is truly amazing. Please ask Tim when it will be finished!

  14. Oh Robin I just love this post. And God has defintelty given you gift with your photography, and in that a gift to us as we look at the beautiful photos you have taken. I too see life through a lens, or wishing I had a lens because I saw something that would be just the 'perfect' photo. And when I don't see life through the lens I see it through my love of children. God Bless and thanks for this beautiful post.

I love that log cabin too...like how your hubby thinks
Me it depends on the mood I am in...lol Usually what could I do with this piece to make it more me.

  16. Great question! And even more amazing answers. When I'm at my best, I see the world as a story; and how that story is related to scripture and God's grace and mercy. And when I'm not at my best, life just happens, without much thought of capturing the beauty of it all.

  17. Wow..just found your lovely blog...your images are amazing. I am like you and see my world always through the lens of my camera. Crazy isn't it..but I would not have it any other way!

  18. Hmmm, great question, Robin, it really made me think. I think that at different times in my life I have seen the world in different ways. When I was younger, I saw everything happening around me like a movie and I could even hear in my head the voice of the guy who does the voice-overs for movie trailers, narrating everything going on (and of course, adding some extra drama- because you know, when we were younger we really loved the DRAMA of everything.... now that I am older, I am DONE with Drama!)
Now I see beauty everywhere, the magnificence and detail and glory of God's creation all around me, and I just want to soak it in, and capture it either with a camera or a paintbrush, sometimes just in my memory....
Your photos are fabulous- some of them actually look like paintings.

  32. thanks for letting me know about which GF chocolate cake mixes you like. I have the Betty Crocker mix in the pantry. I'll definitely try that one next time. I was a little bummed about Pamela's not being as great as some of her other GF items. The Pamela's dark chocolate frosting was awesome!

  34. Hi Robin~
Your pictures are BEAUTIFUL! The one at the end is so touching, there really are no words that can do it justice. I never thought about this before (how we all see the world differently) but it makes a lot of sense...I love writing music~ everything I see and hear and feel gets incorporated into song! :)

Again, thank you for sharing such wonderful pictures! I am always in awe of your photography, and especially at how you are able to take such amazing pictures of birds! By the time I get out my camera, they are usually long gone! :)

  36. I feel a kinship with Stepenie Meyer when she mentioned that she creates atories about people and places she encounters everyday...I do the same. I thought it was normal as well..she just verified all my thoughts and actions. From a borader scope I see differently now. It's always fun for me to hear other's thoughts...definitely a good thing.
